Recovery CD Needed

Really gutted, Just bought a K215B and when I started it up it has the dredded sasser.exe virus already installed. This was not mention on the spec list.

Would anyone have any suggestions to solve this quickly, just to make matters worst, the recovery CD was not included in the box.

On start up, the machine restarts before the desktop arrives and it refuses to go into safe mode.

Any suggestions would be gratfully received. A download of the disk would be good, if not encrypted.

Take it back to the retailer and complain.

Would love to but it's a 200mile trip to where I bought it, and because SONY Centres are a franchise my local one will not help.

Yep take it back to the place that you bought it because of the missing Recovery Disk.

Does the computer boot up to windows then give you the message about it restarting in 60 seconds.

If it does you can stop it shutting down by going to Start - All Programs - Accessories, run command prompt.

in command prompt type in shutdown -a

this will stop the computer restating and alow you to download the newest windows updates and get a sasser removial tool form norton.

But what you need to do take it back, because of the missing recovery disk

That will work if the retailer has the Disk's, was the product sealed when you got it or had the box been opened?

I haven,t even seen the start icon yet, it just restarts before.

Bought it from Winsor, Slough. On weekend break with Wifey & Kids at the castle. Couldn't actually get one in Coventry. All others offered were ex-display.

:smileygrin: Sucess, the recovery CD turned up today and it has all gone through very nicely with no gliches, can anyone recommed an good anti viru that will not cost me the earth.
Someone mentioned AVG, your comments will be helpfull in my decision.

Sony Centre Windsor also advised me that you do not get a recovery CD with the K215B notebook but you do with the others in the series.
My thanks to them who actually carried out (to my suprise) what they said they would.

As for AVG, yes it's a good product, and I would suggest getting it, as it updates daily and is pretty good at finding viruses.

Thats odd that you dont get a recovery CD, i would email sony to check that out.

Did the computer not come with Norton internet security?

The problem is Graham is that Sony assume you are able to do a restore from the desktop. Problem I had was that I never had the opportunity to see the desktop before it restarted. It even states in the very little documentation provided that a restore disk is not included with the K215B. Bizarre, me thinks!!
