Keyboard wearing out on 2 months old S2XP

After two months since I bought a S2XP, I've noticed some wear and tear on some keys. Especially the space bar already has a shiny spot where I usually press it with my thumb. The texture of the keys normally is quite dull, but on this spot it looks like it is polished.

While it's not a big problem, and my ¿20 desktop keyboard has the same issue, I am disappointed that a ¿2200 laptop starts to look "used" after just 2 months with only some occasional use.

Should I considder this normal wear and tear, do others also noticed this, or is this something that shouldn't happen?

I'm afraid it's normal with VAIOs, had the same thing with my 30 month old GRX.

It's down to wear and tear, sad really....

My VAIO is two years old and I use it everyday.
I have no problems whit shiny spots on the keyboard.

But I don't know about the quality from VAIO in the UK.
In my life, I have never seen shiny spots on keyboards.

But I know that a car in germany have a better Chassi as the same car that was build for amerika.

And in germany we have the Stiftung Warentest . and they was checking the quality from all that you can buy. (Notebooks, TVs, scissors, gloves, etc.)

But what is in the UK
I have never seen this. I have a 15years old(or more) Commodore/Amiga whit no shiny spots on the keyboard.

I think the best is, next time you your new VAIO in germany and not in the UK.

I have a 14month Pcg fr315s and it's used every day and there are no "shiny" keys, only sign of wear is on the left button for the touchpad. My much older Vaio 5 yrs now has no signs of wear at all, not even on the touchpad buttons

I have a VAIO PCG-FR315S, I have payed 1599¿.

You want me say that newer VAIOs have a worse quality as the old?

Fuzzi has a relative new VAIO with poor Plastic, I can't understand this.
Sony saves at the wrong end.

That sucks. I bought this laptop after having many, many problems with the Acer TravelMate 800 I had before. After I got my money back (which wasn't easy) I thought I went for quality with Sony.

I'm very careful with my electronic stuff and try to keep it in pristine state. But in order to keep it that way, Sony thinks I shouldn't use my laptop at all or what?!

It's nothing to do with the age of the machine, it's to do with what plastic Sony commisions for certain VAIOs.

My friend's old FX is great, no marks or shinyy keys.

Then what to do? I didn't paid ¿2200 for inferior plastic... But what are the options? I can make a big fuzz about it, but I might end up with having the keyboard replaced for exactly the same model with the same defect.

Or sob a bit more about it, I buy a new laptop in a few years, which won't be a Sony...

But I see this on my Playstation 2(the old model)

For a long time I have bought me the PS2 for around 900¿ (with a game) + 80¿ for a Memory Card.

After 2,5 years the PS2 is broken and the warranty is over.
I have bought a new.

---------------->noisy fan, rattle,...............

I DON'T LIKE THIS.

(nevertheless, I like my VAIO)

Vaio Link states that my UK Vaio (S1XP) is covered by a 12 month warranty, but if it was a German machine, then I'd have a 24 month warranty!

What are Sony doin here and is this related to the difference in build quality between the two machines? ie if the UK model is built badly, then they might shorten the warranty period to reduce the number of claims !?!

This is a good question Mr.C

But since the 01.01.2002 all electrical appliances(TVs, DVDplayer, Notebooks, etc.) must have 2 years warranty.

This is a law in Germany.

But I don't know what this had to do whit quality.

Look at my example:

A BMW that was build in germany for german peoply has a better Chassies( can't find a correct translation for "Fahrwerk") as a BMW that was build in Amerika for amerikan people. I don't know why, that's not a joke.

I think German law is spot on - all electrical appliances should come with 2 year warranties. It's better for the environment if things last longer.

I wouldn't say that the german Law system is right.

Sometimes I have the feel we have to many laws for one thing, thus it's not a real problem to go around laws. And the most of our politician are st*pid id*ots.

But that is not a topic for this forum.

More on-topic: wear and tear are almost always excluded from warranty. But what if the manufacturer used inadequate materials, which wear down too fast? The problem then lays with us, the consumer. It's up to us to prove that the materials are faulty...

That sucks.
