Booting from external Floppy Disk USB - PROBLEM

I bought a VGN B1XP and a NEC external floppy drive on USB interface. The floppy works fine in windows but iI can not boot from it. I have checked my BIOS settings and the floppy is selected as the first boot device.

Does anyone else has the same problem?
Something to add?

You must select the USB-Port as first and not the floppy-drive.

You boot from the USB-port (it's uninteristing whether a flash-
(like USB-stick) or a Floppy-drive).

If you can't boot from the USB-port , you can't boot from the USB-Floppy drive.

If I remember you need a Sony drive to boot from.

Hi again and thanks for the replies...

The BIOS does not have any option to set it to boot from USB. Unfortunatelly, this smells like custom-sony-brakes-my-balls thing that makes me angry!

Kee-Lo is right, buy the genuine Sony floppy drive for your laptop and you will be able to boot from it to your hearts content.

Those genuine Sony drives are a bit more clever than your average external floppy dive , but. be prepared to pay premium bucks for the privilege!

I prefer hacking the bios. Obviously there is some kind of model/brand check during the boot process. This might be easy to brake.

You are obviously far more knowledgable than me.

Obviously the bios looks for something within the floppy drive.
Just mind you don't "brake" something that you can't fix.

I wish you well in your endeavours and hope that you can publish the solution here so that everyone can cease to purchase unnecessary and overpriced Sony floppy drives.
