Memory Upgrade

I have an FS115Z, and i'm thinking in upgrading his memory from the 2x256Mb Infineon CL2.5 333Mhz to 2x512 (it maximum expanssibilitie) Mushkin CL2.5 400Mhz, do you guys thinks it will work just fine with 400Mhz chips on it, or should I buy 333Mhz chips anyway?

I think that you need 333Mhz. Check it on the Crucial site.

Thats where the problem starts Rich, the FS series is not listed on Crucial.

You will need 333MHz chips.

This Memory is extremly overpriced. And there is no reason, to buy this memory.

Yeah Crucial is VERY cheap for memory, I would buy the RAM from them for my machine.

I would even go so far as to say, do not buy this memory under any circumstances, you are being ripped off.

Kingston are apparantly not too bad either.

Yeah I have to agree TT - it is vastly overpriced RAM, Crucial and Kingston are both very good (and cheaper!) brands of RAM.

I would NOT recommend getting the Sony RAM from SonyStyle.

So long as you follow the memory installation guide carefully on VAIO-Link then you will be fine.

Precautions:
1. Make sure you are grounded correctly.
2. Do not touch the gold contacts on the memory module.
3. Never force a memory module into a bay - you could damage it that way!
4. Don't touch anything inside the VAIO memory flap.
5. Always replace the cover after installation.
6. Never install RAM in a hot computer. Leave it to cool right down first.

Remember that under the terms of the warranty you aren't allowed to use non-Sony RAM (again, you're being ripped off) so it might be advisable to keep the old RAM around so you can shove it back in should your computer need to go off for repair.

Really? That's interesting, I always had a bit of a thing for Samsung gear. I wonder if Sony RAM is branded so they know...

Lexar's RAM = Samsung
Crucial's RAM = Micron

Sony don't manufacture RAM chips.

The best way to do this if you are not sure what to buy and how to do it.

Go to your local shop:
Ask them to install memory, test on the spot there, if it works you pay if not you can test an other brand or type.

It might cost a little more, but you are more sure that it will work
