I'd recommend having it inspected honestly, there's a chance it might no work properly as it was when you put it back together and you're also risking killing it if you're not careful

Hi all.

I'm having a problem with my HDR-HC5E where the fold out screen display suddenly just went to showing vertical and horizontal lines like an old tv with no tuning.

From the internet and various sources I believe the only thing it is likely to be is the ribbon cable between the fold out screen and the main body.

I have managed to strip ( probably more than needed ) the camera down to the point where all that is left to do is to remove the stopper / hinge to change the ribbon out. Now I am stuck as I cant see how to release the hinge assembly and no screws left to remove!! On you tube the hinge has clearly visible screws on top and bottom of the metal hinge assembly but this is either on model before or after mine!!!!!

I have searched online manuals and YouTube vids but not much help found.

This forum is my last hope before I just scrap a perfectly working camera with no screen!!

Can anyone help me please??

Thanks

Well I persevered and finally worked out how to remove the hinge assembly, unfortunately another smaller flexible cable, which I believe is number FP-372 as it looks like it has a small switch on it, fell out and I have no idea of where it goes.

Also the installation of the replacement cable for FP-659 looks like you have to be an origami expert to prepare it for fitting. Any ideas guys?

Cheers
