Hello Fidget72 - welcome to the Sony Forums

It all depends upon the actual camcorder chosen and the version of iMovie that you try and use with it - or indeed other Mac software. Some users report being able to view both photos and videos when attaching their chosen model via USB whilst others seem to get more success by using video converter software to change recorded videos into a file format that is more Mac friendly.

Having said that, if you have a look at the official Sony support pages for camcorders - http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en

Also, there is a lot of useful advice in the official Apple support forums relating to connecting Sony video products - I usually use Google to bring up relevant results or you can visit the start page here - https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa

You can search by model numbers and when applicable, there are help guides which offer advice for connecting to iMovie.

Thanks,

Simon
