Hi Nic,

All the AVCHD files transfer in full quality via the SD card reader in the Panasonic, to its hard drive and then onto Blu-Ray for archive.

Now I have a new RX100M3 camera (where the Dual Rec.appears to work correctly) I won't have the same problem in future.

I'll be happy enough to archive the MP4 videos in standard definition as you originally described although I appreciate that the software you mention is the best way to do it.

AVCHD transfer can be be done simply by inserting the SD card to the Panasonic unit.

MP4 content on the SD card (used for uploading to social media) can be accessed and viewed via the 740 model but not transferred to HDD or BD-R

I suspect I may need some aftermarket leads to run from the camera to the Panasonic (?)

The available inputs are scarts , coaxial aerial and '3 xRCA style' Red/White (audio) yellow (video)

(I think the DUAL REC was faulty on my older M2 model)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Andy

Hello @Andyjl65,

the connectors you named don't allow for digital HD transfer, only for SD transfer.

I'm not sure if that (even with a working cable) would be satisfactory for you.

Hi Andyjl65,

I totally agree with IamNic, as I believe you cannot establish a direct connection from the camera to your device.

Cheers,
The_Black_Rose

Hello @Andyjl65,

@Andyjl65 schrieb:

..I guess MP4 is largely SD anyway.

MP4 is a video codec, which supports SD, HD and even resolutions of 4K and beyond - so no.

@Andyjl65 schrieb:

What method/cables would you recommend to do this?

There once was a Sony cable which went from MULTI-port to RCA (yellow, red, white), but I neither know if it would be compatible with the RX100m3, nor do I think it is still being sold - meaning it is discontinued.

So the only option would be to get a micro-HDMI to HDMI cable, an adapter (from HDMI to RCA) and then connect that to the Panasonic device.

Thanks for that info Nic! Much obliged.

I also hadn't realised MP4 could support HD either. However, on the RX100M3 , the two MP4 options are considerably lower quality than AVCHD and use a fraction of the memory space.

Hello @Andyjl65,

in the case of your camera that is true, there the AVCHD container uses a higher bitrate.

For newer Sony cameras which support 4K resolution, the XAVC-S container is used which holds the video as a MP4 file.

In the case of your Panasonic disc burner, the connectors it has allow for SD quality only, so it wouldn't really matter which quality you choose beforehand if you then capture the videos from the cameras output via the method I described before.

I personally would recommend to get a video editing program like "Magix Video Deluxe" to burn Blu-Rays in HD quality.
