Hi @Superslam

If the front element was to get scratched then it would be an expensive repair.

A protector can often save a lens if something bad happens, plus in rain it is easy to take off.

Unless it's a high-end skylight filter (Sony recommend Zeiss) the image will not be as true in certain circumstances. In bright sunlight there could be colour fringing and chromatic aberrations.

I'd say get a skylight filter, keep it on for protection, but for the best images such as weddings etc. remove it, unless it's a premium one.

Hope this helps

Hi, I have no experience with this myself, but here you'll find a page with Accessories Compatibility Information that I thought might be useful for you. You'll find Filter Compatibility Information here. You might want to run it past Support just to be sure. Here's the support page for your lens by the way, and I think you will enjoy this brand new Sony Alpha Universe hub too.

Hi,

I've been fitting UV filters to every lens I've bought over the past 30+ years. I would never use a lens without one. I go for good quality filters by a maker I trust.

Hope this helps
