Xperia C4 Dual E5333 - deactivate SIM function not working - Android 6 bug?

I have an upgraded Xperia C4 Dual E5333 (Andoid 6.0) with 2 SIM cards (upgrade done with Xperia Companion)
SIM1: GSM only - used for PHONE
SIM2: LTE/ (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM - used for internet

To decrease the battery usage, I want to Disable the SIM2 card when I don't need the Internet access.
used the "Settings -> SIM Cards", and wanted to disable the SIM2, but I got: "Error, can't disable all the SIMs." - I don't know why this option is not working as my SIM1 is absolutely active.

I read the related book here, but no solution.

I disabled Mobile Data, and tried many many combination in "Settings -> Data Usage - Mobile Networks", but the "disable SIM" function is still not working AT ALL --- AT ALL, as I have tested it wth SIM1, and also got the same "false" error.
There is ONE BUTTON solution to acivate/deactivate SIM2 to decrease the battery usage of it - I want to avoid any mobile signal when the SIM2 is disabled, this should be done by the menu in "Settings -> SIM Cards", but not working, and I think, this is a bug.

hi, could you try the following?

1.) switch the sim cards place.

2.) try the settings while on safe mode

Hello @Arnoldinho,

As @nolramlb suggested, is there any change if you switch places for your two SIM-cards? Are you then able to disable any of the SIM-cards under the Dual-SIM settings?

However if you simply wish to disable Mobile data in your phone you can do this under Settings > Data usage. Tap the slider Mobile data to disable it.

Hello, tryied the SIM card change both in Normal and in Safe Mode - I got the same "false" message 😞

I think, this is a bug this Android release, bu if you have any idea t otest this function, please share it with me.

I know, how to disable the Mobile internet, but I want to fully switch of the SIM2 as it should work.

It's not impossible this could be related to your service provider. I would recommend checking in with them if this is allowed or not, I've tested in one of the devices we have here and as able to disable one of the SIM-cards.

If you should be able to disable any of your SIM-cards according to your service provider I'd suggest you perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. Since this will reset your phone, make sure to create a backup first.

Hello, I'm having a same issue as Arnoldinho, I cannot deactivate SIM on my C5 Ultra Dual after an update to Android 6.0.

Previously, before an update when I was using Android 5.1 it was working fine, and now an error message appears "Error, can't disable all the SIMs".

I've tried it in safe mode with no success, and trying different service providers haven't made any change either.

Deactivating the SIM(s) is very important phone feature to me and now the button gives me an error message.

(@)Hi Arnoldinho, please advise if you had luck using Xperia Companion, and does deactivating SIM finally works?

(@)Sony support, please advise would there be a fix for this issue in case Xperia Companion cannot help? If not, please advise how can I rollback to Android 5.1 again?

I'm sorry to hear that.

Is there any change if you swap places with your SIM-cards?

Do you know if your phone might be branded to a specific service provider? If that is the case it's not impossible that this is the cause of this not working.

Should the above not help I would suggest performing a software repair.

Hi @Didrik, thanks for response, I'll visit the developers site too. Please be informed phone is not branded to any specific service provider and swapping SIM-cards, unfortunately didn't work. I've tried using only one SIM, just to test it, but with no success. Using the phone for the past year, before an update to android 6, and now after that update, it seems that the main issue lies in that very same update to android 6. Please advise how can we escalate this issue to further support level that might eventually result in sort of software patch for this SIM(s) deactivating function for end users of both C4 Dual and C5 Ultra Dual?

I have upgraded Xperia C4 Dual to Andoid 6.0(upgrade done with Xperia Companion) and made the biggest mistake of my life .

Infact I already made the biggest mistake of my life by purchasing a phone of the most disrespectful and most customer decentric company THTS SONY.

To decrease the battery usage, I want to Disable the SIM2 card when I don't need the Internet access.
used the "Settings -> SIM Cards", and wanted to disable the SIM2, but I got: "Error, can't disable all the SIMs."

This matter was already reported to SONY people in the month of October (http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-C4/Xperia-C4-Dual-E5333-deactivate-SIM-function-not-working-Android/td-p/1165972) I dont why it was not been rectified so far and I was also not been informed by any of the agent while I had a talk with them regarding the upgrade, before actually doing it else I would not have dne it.

When I contacted them with this issue I got the most disgusting reply " format ur fone" how ridiculous is this, formatting my phone means loss of all data along with loss of all applications which are based on my phone number as I dnt have that number active anymore from last year , but i have been using it for last five year, how could sony make me accountable for their carelessness that they did not upgrade their knowledge system even after being informed about this problem.

SONY I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH YOU. YOU LOST A LOYAL CUSTOMER TODAY.

After the upgrade, many strange things happened:
Sometimes, I lost my ringtone setup... 😞
Sometimes, some other settings were lost!
etc.etc...

What I have done - in brief:
Switch off "My Xperia function" - REQUIRED!!!!
Created new backups into Google Grive, with the Xperia Copmanion, and into my SD card - JUST TO BE SURE
SOWFTWARE RESINSTALLATION with Xperia Companion!!!!!!!!

Tested the SIM deactivation - WORKING WELL!!!!!!!!!
Resored from my BACKUP files from Google Drive - BAD IDEA, some strange things happen...
Decided to do factory reset via the Android menu (same/similar like here: https://support.google.com/android-one/answer/6088915?hl=en )

I setup everything one by one again...
Now everything works fine...

new feature arrived: if I tpye a phone number, both SIM card call function is available

NEWS !!!!

Bad - Worse - Worst 😞

Fist of all - BEFORE THE REPAIR: the SIM1 signal was always full, and the SIM2 signal was about on halp - I had no problme with it, but got the message "Mobile Datas is disable" - don't udernstand why I got is many many times a day when the mobile data is disabled (SIM2 used mobile data).

NOW 😞 - AFTER THE REPAIR

both SIM1 and SIM2 signal lost many many times... how can this happen?

Yesaterday, a the newest upgrade appeared, so installed, hope Sony realised some thing... but no, still lost every SIM signal... tried many many variety, tried to change the "Preferred netwrk type" from LTE(preferred)/WCDMA/GSM" to "WCDMA(preferred)/GSM" - NO SUCCESS

Tried many thing, change SIM cards, used only one SIM card, etc. etc. after some time, the signal went out...

Other Phone has full signal with both SIM card - all bills are paid, etc. etc - so please don'T ask this kind of basic question

This is at least Sowftware, but maybe

One thing - I have a new 4G SIM, but not able to choose the Vodefone 4G network - only the 3G??? Tried also with or without SIM1/SIM2 - so many variety.

Why? This phone knows the LTE.... what is the problem with my Phone now?

HELP!!!!!!!!!! not able to call, as the breaks!!!!!!!!!

ONE MORE THING - I HAVE NO FULL SINGAL AT ALL - NO FULLY SIGNAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! only half or LESS!!!!

I will try the last software repair with this new latest Android - if no solution, then go to the service to try to repair my pohne...

Hope Sony not only a brand name but quality - please help!!! I likke this phone... and I paid for it!!! need a usable Phone what promised when I bougth this

Now I know why the "Mobile data is disabled" message repeatedly many times a day (without any manual action before them).... because the SIM2 signal lost many times in the background, and the when it got the signal again, then it refreshed this settings and give the message...

so the "Mobile data is disabled" recurrence it not a bug... it works as expected...

but what about your phone... sorry... my Phone, as I have paid for it
The C4 is buggy? Or the Software? Or both?
As I wrote, before the SW repair, I had full signal on SIM1 - only SIM2 had half signal as per the screen shows...

I am very sad, as the mobile signal is a basic function in a phone... without any compromise...

New software available - downloadad, upgraded, still got the signal problem

Using only ONE SIM card, the other one is in my old phone (with always full signal at the same provider)

I have tried many many variations with the SIM1 and SIM2 cards and with the options but got the same reult.

I have spoken with some "service personnel", who told me, that the Sony software has bug... I agree with them.

Dear Sony upport, this is a fastidious topic, but if you mend your product (software or hardware), that is a new trust again for your brand.

Do you have any service Application to share with me to find the problem? Do not hesitate to give me the access, I am on to solve the problem, I get liket my phone till the Software repair (because of the SIM card deactivation problem).

I will do another software repair without any data restore... let's see what will happen...

Hi Can somebody help me please..... I upgraded my Sony Xperia C4 Dual last week via xperia Companion but since then i have had alot of issues with the phone.

1. Touch screen hangs

2. It registers mobile network and loses it after some hours

3.It does not boot into Recovery mode with key combinations.

4. No PC detention through USB cable it only charges even after selecting MTP mode from Developer options. I have done a thousand factory resets but nothing seems to get me any where. Please help.

I had the same problem, and after the upgrade to 6.0, the E5333 becames unusable (day by day worst, and some days later, not able to call at all...). Tried everything, contacted the Hungarien suport, etc. etc.

The reason what Sony forget to implement to the "xperia Companion", that the NON-EU versions doesn't suport the Android 6.0 upgrade, and if you implement it, the phone became unusable.... (this is waht the Hungarian Service said to me).

After this, I bought a phone from a different company...
