TV restarts when any button on remote pressed

I have a KD-55XD8005. no matter which button I press on the remote it restarts the TV. I have unplugged the TV for 5 minutes and that didn't work. I put new batteries in the remote, again not working. Any ideas?

Update: I managed to solve this by doing a hard reset holding the side buttons on the TV.
